Sounds like you need a different filter system on the ice machines.

Looking at the Manitowoc Ice ID1106A service manual: http://download.partstown.com/is-bin/intershop.static/WFS/Reedy-PartsTown-Site/-/en_US/manuals/MAN-Indigo_sm.pdf

On page 59 (58 of the PDF),  there is an option for manual harvest. That’s the only manual function I see.

However, reading the sequence of operation, you may be able to force a water purge: See page 101:

The first things that happens after initial start up, or start up after an automatic shut off, is the water purge.

I have to agree with fixbear here. It may be worth contacting a water professional and saving the cost of having to maintenance the machines daily, not to mention the cost of replacing the pump motor if you should fail to flush the machine one day and it overheats as you mentioned earlier.

Alternatively, just don’t call in sick one day.

    I hope this helps!

I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to have your water tested from what we have heard. I’m not familiar with yellow crystals that melt with hot water, But since you have a seasonal operation with a large multi bar, kitchen and large crowds, you have a obligation to provide safe water. The source of your contaminate could be within your site. Have the water mains been flushed before opening. Municipal testing will only be for safe chlorine levels unless someone gets sick. You may have a fungal buildup in the system or corrosion from multiple changes of materials over the years in different sections that will set up electrolysis. Also there was some plastics used in water systems in the past that are now illegal due to toxicity..

Yeah, I have seen a lot of things, probably not anywhere near as many as fixbear but I have never seen yellow crystals in any water application or ice application anywhere.

The fact that its discolored and not clear no matter what state of matter its in, liquid or ice, tells me somethings not right. Water is clear, if its yellow its probably rusty or contaminated or the city is messing up.

Either way, getting your water tested is a good idea, in Clearwater they will do it for free, just call your city’s water management branch and say you want a water test because its yellow, its also the city’s responsibility but they can and should test inside your facility and somewhere next door or near you to see if its your facility or their facility which will mean that either you get it fixed or they get it fixed but the test should be free.

The cost of someone getting sick or someone else noticing the water is not right and acting on it could cost you a lot more.
