I have a Simpson 270 series 5. It’s old school but I like it a lot.

My first meter was a Simpson 260. Got dropped and I had to replace it. Bought a Belkin and hated it. The two best meters over the past 65 years for me are the Simpson and a couple of Flukes. The 300 was great till the screen feed strip got old. I’ve had TPI’s, Fieldpiece Snap-On, UPI, and Power Probe as well. And no matter what the meter, Fluke leads and probes are the best I’ve found.

I’ve never come across a 270, always the 260’s but if it’s made by Simpson it will be a good meter digital meters are great but there’s nothing like the feel you get for a circuit with a good analogue meter. Maybe that’s just me, I was brought up with them and I’m getting old.

Simpson analogue meters are fantastic I used to love mine, sadly someone else liked it as well & it got stolen. still have my MK3 & 5 Avo 8’s though and they’re fantastic meters and still going strong but they stay in the workshop nowadays. I still carry a Small Robin analogue meter but it doesn’t get used that much nowadays.

The Simpson 270 is the higher accuracy version of the 260. Both are still currently available.

Hi: Thanks for the reply, I’ve seen a few adverts for 260’s over here but at silly prices for second hand and unknown quality. To be honest I wouldn’t take a 260 out with me nowadays either, so it would just be sat in the workshop alongside the Avo’s & I think if I bought another meter for the workshop my wife would probably kill me.
