Dormont Installation Guide for Technicians

Dormont Gas Hoses & Connectors provide a safe, secure OEM solution for providing a direct gas supply to commercial kitchen equipment. If an operator needs a full replacement of their gas hose and connectors, caution should be taken during the process. The guide below is for authorized service technicians who are capable of safely working with gas.

How to Install a Dormont Gas Hose Connector

  • Step 1—Turn off the gas supply before proceeding to the next steps.
  • Step 2—Remove any existing gas connectors and fittings if present.
  • Step 3—Uncoil the new connector to avoid twisting or kinking, and remove any fittings that may be attached.
  • Step 4—Using a soft bristle brush, remove any debris around the gas supply pipe or valve.
  • Step 5—Select the right fitting for both the gas supply line and appliance. Once you’ve checked that they’ll fit properly, set the fittings aside for installation.
  • Step 6—Attach fittings to the gas supply line as stated below:
    • Shut-off valve has a female threaded end:
      • Hold the fitting in your hand with the flare end palm-side. Apply a liberal amount of pipe thread sealant to the male end of the pipe threads by first starting at the opening of the fitting. Smooth the sealant with your finger or a brush. If you’re using your finger, wipe off excess so it doesn’t get on the flare ends.
      • If you’re using Teflon tape, hold the fitting in your hand with the flare end palm-side. Starting at the opening of the fitting, apply the Teflon tape in a clockwise direction, wrapping about 3-4 times. Snap in the same direction as the tape is wrapped to ensure a smooth end.
      • Attach the fitting onto the valve and tighten by hand as tight as possible.
      • Using a wrench, hold the valve in place; using another wrench, hold the fitting in place, then turn the wrench on the fitting clockwise to tighten. As you’re tightening, hold the wrench on the valve to keep it stabilized.
    • Shut-off valve has a flare end:
      • Connect the flare nut onto the valve directly without a fitting. Do not use a pipe thread sealant or Teflon tape on the flare.
      • Using a wrench, hold the valve in place; using another wrench, hold the fitting in place, then turn the wrench on the fitting clockwise to tighten. As you’re tightening, hold the wrench on the valve to keep it stabilized.
  • Step 7—Next, attach fittings to the appliance-side inlet as stated below:
    • Appliance connection has a female threaded end/regulator:
      • Attach the fitting onto the inlet and tighten by hand as tight as possible.
      • Using a wrench, hold the inlet in place; using another wrench, hold the fitting in place, then turn the wrench on the fitting clockwise to tighten. As you’re tightening, hold the wrench on the inlet to keep it stabilized.
    • Appliance has male pipe threads:
      • Apply a liberal amount of pipe thread sealant to the male end of the pipe threads by first starting at the opening of the fitting.
  • Step 8—Attach the connector to the gas supply, making sure the end of the connector is straight to make installation easier. Tighten the connector as tight as possible by hand first, then tighten further in the same way as described in previous steps.
  • Step 9—Attach the connector to the appliance side. Tighten the connector as tight as possible by hand first, then tighten further in the same way as described in previous steps.

Installation Tips

  • For moveable equipment, make sure that the two ends of the gas hose are offset to the side from each other +/- 3” as needed. This will ensure the equipment is close to the wall without disrupting the gas flow.
  • Avoid and check for sharp bends and any kinks in the hose when equipment is moved.
  • Turn off main gas shut-off valve in the event that the specific piece of equipment being serviced doesn’t have its own dedicated shut-off.
