How to Set a Garland Fryer Temperature

After constant use, a fryer’s temperature could begin to have fluctuations. This is probably a sign that the thermostat needs to be calibrated. Calibrating equipment is vital to ensure safe and efficient equipment performance. Fryer thermostats are essential to the operation of the unit as well. That’s why it’s vital for a technician to know how to set a Garland fryer temperature.

Before servicing a fryer, be sure to take off jewelry and put on protective gloves and goggles.

Garland Fryer Thermostat Testing

Before calibrating a fryer thermostat, it needs to be tested to see if the temperature is set correctly.

  • Step 1. Turn off electrical mains – Before beginning service work, it’s important to power down all electrical mains first.
  • Step 2. Place the thermocouple in the fryer – Place the test instrument’s thermocouple into the center of the fryer tank, approximately 1” below the oil’s surface.
  • Step 3. Adjust the thermostat dial – Turn the thermostat dial to 325° F.
  • Step 4. Let the temperature stabilize – Wait for the oil temperature to stabilize by letting the unit cycle twice.
  • Step 5. Check the temperature – When the cycle pilot lamp indicates “OFF,” check the temperature reading. If the temperature isn’t reading within 15°F of the dial setting, the thermostat needs to be recalibrated.

Garland Fryer Thermostat Calibration

If, after testing that the thermostat calibration is needed, perform the following steps:

  • Step 1. Turn off electrical mains – Before beginning service work, it’s important to power down all electrical mains first.
  • Step 2. Remove the dial – Carefully remove the thermostat dial without adjusting the dial setting.
  • Step 3. Turn the calibration screw – Use a small flat blade screwdriver to turn the calibration screw that is located inside the thermostat shaft. Turn the screw clockwise to decrease the temperature and counterclockwise to increase it.
    • Note.  ¼ turn of the screwdriver will cause a change of approximately 35° F.
  • Step 4. Replace the dial knob – After adjustments are made, reinstall the dial knob on the thermostat.
  • Step 5. Repeat testing steps – After calibration, repeat steps 1-5 of the thermostat testing instructions above to ensure the unit is calibrated and ready for use again.
