InSinkErator Evolution Compact Installation for Authorized Technicians

Commercial kitchens need powerful disposers to handle daily usage. That's why many of them turn to InSinkErator's Evolution Compact line for their sinks. Service technicians are always called on to install these disposers whenever new sinks are being installed or old ones are being retrofitted. Don't have a manual on hand to help? Below are InSinkErator Evolution Compact installation instructions that technicians can use as reference.

NOTE: This guide is ONLY for authorized technicians. Disposer operators should contact a local authorized service agent to conduct the tasks outlined below as well as additional repairs.

Installation Procedure for Authorized Technicians

  • Step 1. Remove the old disposer and clean the drain line – Before you begin, remove the old garbage disposer. Then, clean the sink drain line avoid any blockage. Use a drain auger to clear any hardened obstructions.
  • Step 2. Add putty around the sink flange – Apply about a half-inch thick rope of plumber's putty around the flange. Make sure the putty is applied evenly.
  • Step 3. Place the sink flange into the drain – Firmly press the flange into the sink drain opening. Remove any excess putty.
  • Step 4. Insert the fiber gasket, backup flange and mounting ring – From the bottom of the sink flange, insert the fiber gasket, backup flange and mounting ring in that order. Hold all three of those components in place while inserting the snap ring.
  • Step 5. Lock the snap ring into place – Place a weight or the disposer atop the sink flange to keep it in place. Use a towel to avoid scratching the sink. Once it's weighed down, move back to the snap ring and pull it open. Make sure to press firmly so it snaps into place.
  • Step 6. Fasten screws into backup flange – Fasten 1 1/2″ screws tightly into the backup flange. If the sink is 3/8″ thick, use 1 1/8″ screws instead.

**Move to Step 8 if no dishwasher is being connected**

  • Step 7. Remove drain plug from dishwasher inlet valve – Turn the disposer on its side. Locate the dishwasher inlet and insert a screwdriver. Knock out the drain plug inside the disposer by holding the screwdriver with one hand and tapping a hammer with the other hand.

**Move to Step 8 if no dishwasher is being connected**

  • Step 8. Pull out wires from the disposer – Turn over the disposer over and remove the electrical cover plate. Pull the wires out. Make sure you don't remove the cardboard shield.
  • Step 9. Insert the cable connector – With the electrical power off, insert the cable connector and run the electrical cable through the access hole at the bottom of the disposer. Then, tighten the cable connector.
  • Step 10. Connect wiring – With the wire nuts, connect white to white and black to black or red. Connect the ground wire to the green grounding screw. Grounding is essential for proper and safe installation.
  • Step 11. Place wires back into the disposer – Push the wires into disposer and reattach the electrical cover plate. Make sure you don't displace the cardboard shield.
  • Step 12. Place discharge tube into disposer – Place the discharge tube into the disposer's anti-vibration tailpipe mount. Secure the tube with the hose clamp from InSinkErator. Non-approved clamps can damage the anti-vibration tailpipe mount and void the warranty.
  • Step 13. Mount the disposer to the sink – Align the disposer's three mounting tabs with the slide-up ramps on the mounting ring. Turn the mounting ring until the tabs lock over the ridges on the slide-up ramps.
  • Step 14. Attach the magnetic cover control switch (cover control models only) Attach the magnetic cover control switch to the screws. Check that the plastic guides are under the mounting ring.
  • Step 15. Trim discharge tube if necessary – If the discharge tube needs to be trimmed, remove the disposer. Trim the discharge tube with a hacksaw. Reconnect the disposer following steps 12-14, ensuring the anti-vibration tailpipe mount is straight.
  • Step 16. Reposition spec label – Locate the removable portion of the spec label. Detach the removable label and place it on a visible portion of the disposer.
  • Step 17. Add sink baffle into the sink opening – Use the Insert Quick Collar™ Sink Baffle in the sink opening. Test that everything is connected properly by filling the sink with water. Check for any leaks and correct accordingly.
